The Iraq delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross is seeking a senior expatriate Arabic translator/reviser to manage the delegation’s translation service effectively and ensure that the documents entrusted to the service are translated in accordance with the standards of the profession and of the ICRC. The position will be based in Baghdad.
The senior translator/reviser is the focal point for all written translations (English to Arabic and vice versa) at the delegation, in particular reports and general communications to be submitted to the authorities, as well as publications, presentations, training materials, etc.
He/she will translate into Arabic confidential documents and reports produced by the Protection Department – in particular relating to the ICRC’s visits to detainees. The senior translator will also be called on interpret during
meetings when sensitive / confidential issues are being discussed.
Occasionally, the senior translator will assist prison visiting teams during visits conducted in various prisons and other places of detention.
Due to the ICRC status as a neutral body and in view of the ongoing security issues in the country, the following nationalities cannot be employed for this position:
US, UK, Iraq, Australia, France, Canada, Iran, Israel (other nationality with Israeli visa in the passport), Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, UAE and South Sudan (not recognized by Iraq).
